Prescribed Dental Course Prerequisites for admission into BDS are:

  • The candidate should have 50% aggregate marks in qualifying exams taken with Physics, Chemistry and Biology together.
  • The SC and ST candidates have 10% relaxation as prescribed by the Indian Government.

Graduate candidates who have Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from a recognized Indian university can also apply for this course. But the conditions are set to studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology together up to the ancillary level with qualifying the earlier foundation qualifications with the same subjects.

If the candidate have not cleared the prescribed 10+2 education structure than he/she have to go through an one year of pre-medical training and have to qualify the Dental Admission Test. The pre-professional or pre-medical course should be inclusive of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as mandatory subjects.

Candidates who have passed their Senior Secondary Examination from National Open School are also eligible for applying into this course if they have studied the following group of subjects with these minimum 5 subjects:

  • English, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology
  • English, physics, Chemistry, Biology and any other language

Age limit requirements for dental school:

Candidate should be at least of 17 years of age at the time of applying into this course.


MASTERS OF DENTAL SURGERY (M.D.S.) Prescribed Dental Admission requirements for the Post Graduate Degree in Dental Course i.e. Master of Dental Surgery (M.D.S.) is:
  • Have successfully completed the B.D.S. degree from a recognized university with minimum of 55% marks from Indian Dental Council and has obtained the Permanent Registration number from any State Dental Councils.
  • The candidates also have to complete the prescribed one year of C.R.R.I.

How to Apply:

To apply for Govt. institutions, one has to clear the national level entrance exam or have to qualify the advertised fellowships.

In case of qualifying into the national level entrance exam or fellowship competition, the candidates have to seat for counseling process to get assigned with the Govt. universities for their courses.

In case of choosing the specialization subject for MDS studies, for Govt. colleges it depends on the availability of course and seats. On the other hand, for the private universities, candidates have the free wings to choose their desired subjects.

To apply for both BDS and MDS courses in private or deemed universities, you can apply separately for each university or colleges through their online and offline application system.

The conditions for application and eligibility criteria are similar for all the recognized institution across India as they are prescribed by the authorized body called Indian Dental Council.
